There were many murmurs about which Tennessee quarterback would get the starting nod in the Citrus Bowl. Quarterback Joe Milton III started all twelve games for the Vols this season but had his sights set on the NFL Draft. On Wednesday, Milton announced that he would forgo the game and test the professional waters, though he will be with the team during preparation and the game itself.

Freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava has seen action in four contests this season, though limited. He’s logged 26 passes to date and will get his first career start against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Citrus Bowl. Iamaleava was the No. 3 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He’s been the crown jewel of head coach Josh Heupel’s recruiting efforts through his early tenure with the team.
