Smooth transition: Former Terrebonne football star adjusting to college life at Florida State
Former Terrebonne High School football star Ja’Khi Douglas is busy participating in his first college fall preseason football camp at Florida State University this month.
And it didn’t take him long to realize how much different the college game is compared to the high school level.
“It’s a lot faster from high school,” said Douglas, a former four-star high school football prospect. “Everybody is good. Everybody is competing for playing time. Everything is fast-paced and quick. You just have to be ready.”
Douglas said the transition for him has gone smoothly so far in his freshman season of college football.
He graduated from Terrebonne in December and was an early enrollee at Florida State in January, giving him a jumpstart over other true freshmen players who arrived on campus this summer.
He used the time to develop relationships with this new teammates and coaches, learn the offensive playbook and improve his conditioning.
“Coming in early played a big part in helping me get ahead,” Douglas said. “It helped with the transition from high school and college.”
Now Douglas and the Seminoles are hard at work getting ready for their season opener against Georgia Tech on Sept. 12 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Florida State, which is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), is scheduled to play an 11-game regular season schedule this fall.
After the COVID-19 pandemic forced other Power 5 college football conferences to postpone their seasons until spring of 2021, Douglas said he is happy that the ACC is still on track to play in the fall.
