Who is former Mississippi State University football coach Zach Arnett?

Zach Arnett, 37, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 10, 1986, and has built a career in college sports.

Before becoming the Bulldogs’ head coach, he served as the defensive coordinator and the position coach at Mississippi State University from 2020 to 2022.

According to Saturday Down South, Arnett was a linebacker at New Mexico State University from 2005 to 2008.

He then served as a graduate assistant for San Diego State University from 2011 to 2013 before becoming the linebackers coach in 2014.

Arnett then worked as the college’s linebackers coach and defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2019.

Why was Zach Arnett fired?

Arnett was fired after one season as head coach of the Bulldogs on Monday, November 13, 2023, due to his poor record with the team.

As Fox News reported, Mississippi State athletics director Zac Selmon said in a statement: “As part of my thoroughMike Leach suffers heart attack, situation dire for Mississippi State  football coach | Sources and continued evaluation, I have determined that a change in leadership is necessary to move our football program forward and position it for the highest level of success.

“I have the utmost respect for Zach Arnett and am incredibly appreciative of the effort he put forth in leading our football program.

“However, the progress and on-field results have not been of the standard required for Mississippi State to achieve the level of success we need and expect.”

Arnett took on the head coaching role following the tragic death of former coach Mike Leach, who passed away on December 12, 2022, at the age of 61.

Selmon expressed his gratitude for Arnett, saying: “Zach took on an unprecedented and challenging situation last December. He provided the football program much needed leadership and stability during a tragic time.
