HEAR APOCALYPTICA COVER METALLICA’S “THE FOUR HORSEMEN” WITH ROBERT TRUJILLO

Finnish cello rockers Apocalyptica started their career with a Metallica tribute album, 1996’s aptly-titled Plays Metallica With Four Cellos. Nearly 30 years later, they’re ready to unleash a second helping.

Apocalyptica have announced another full-length of string-based Metallica songs, Plays Metallica Vol. 2, and one track actually finds them playing with a member of Metallica.

For their version of the Kill ‘Em All classic “The Four Horsemen,” out today (February 23rd), Apocalyptica recruited current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo for a feature

The four-stringer’s hyper-active bass playing can be heard all over the instrumental rendition, which otherwise contains Apocalyptica’s signature symphonic-metal flair. Check it out above via YouTube.

“It’s the coolest thing,” Apocalyptica bandleader Eicca Toppinen said of the new record. “We didn’t push — it was offered.

“We played the first album live and it was so much more fun and exciting than we expected, so we got the idea to do something like the first album, but we couldn’t do it in exactly the same way – we needed to challenge ourselves and bring a totally new perspective to the original energy and emotion of Metallica.”

Plays Metallica Vol. 2, out June 7th, also features renditions of “Ride the Lightning,” “One,” “The Call of Ktulu” and many other Metallica classics.
