Seven important players who will shape the Cowboys’ 2024 campaign
These players could have a big impact on how well Dallas performs in 2024, since it could be a make-or-break year for a number of them.

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping for a new beginning and to go past the end of 2023 when training camp begins next week. The Cowboys intend to make the playoffs for the fourth time in a row. They will have to depend on a few players, including several freshmen, to play well in order to accomplish this.

Let’s examine the seven important players who could impact the Cowboys’ 2024 season.

Mazi Smith, a defensive tackle in his second year, is first on our list.

Smith was selected 26th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, making history as Dallas’ first first-round selection of a defensive tackle since Russell Maryland in 1991. The Cowboys were hoping Smith would help open up opportunities for other players and offer depth in the middle. Regretfully, the rookie out of Michigan had a dismal rookie campaign, finishing with just 13 tackles, 3 pressures, and 1 sack.

It’s never appropriate to evaluate a player only on the basis of one season, though, and Mike Zimmer, the defensive coordinator going forward, talked about his “perfect” strategy this offseason to get Smith back on track.

With the loss of Neville Gallimore and Jonathan Hankins via free agency, the Cowboys are hopeful that the 328-pound, 6-foot-3-inch defensive lineman will fit into Zimmer’s scheme. Smith needs to step up even more on the interior for the defense.
