Jason Newsted’s Selling Some Incredibly Rare Gear Over on Reverb
Collectors with an eye for detail, artists with excess cash, and die-hard Metallica fans may find this one interesting. Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted now owns a specialized Reverb store where he sells some interesting guitars and basses that want to be played.
The Reverb website, which is scheduled to live on July 24, will showcase more than 60 pieces that Newsted has acquired over the course of his decades-long career. With everything from 1960s Gibson, Fender, and Rickenbacker models up for grabs, there are some really unusual pieces available.
According to a press statement, Newsted expressed his willingness to relinquish the instruments to someone who would be more inclined to play them than he is.
Among the instruments that will be put up for auction later this month is a 10-string Alembic Europa Custom bass that he played during the early 1990s tour in support of The Black Album. A unique cherry sunburst-finished PRS bass used during the A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica film is also up for grabs, as is an Alembic bass.Additionally, a fretless five-string bass was used to record “Until It Sleeps” for the Justice For All tour.
Other items include a rare Mosrite 5-string electric mandolin guitar with a sunburst finish, a 1966 Firebird III, a 1937 National Dobro “Exploding Palm Tree” Tri-Cone Resonator, a 1937 Barney Kessel Custom from the late 1960s, an original Ampeg AUB-1 Scroll Bass in excellent condition, a custom 3-string Music Man bass inspired by Tony Levin’s design, and a similar 1928 National Dobro Mandolin Style 2.
You can get a preview of the collection over at Reverb, even though all of it is just a clue as to what will be available for purchase. In the video below, you can also see the man himself discussing a few of the items up for sale.
