DALLAS: The Dallas Cowboys lost running back Duane Thomas during their 1971 season, which ended with a Super Bowl victory. Thomas passed away. He was seventy-seven.

The team provided no further information other than Thomas’s death on Sunday.

During his two turbulent seasons with the Cowboys in 1970–71—which were marred by a contract dispute—Thomas once referred to coach Tom Landry as “plastic man.”

When he led the Cowboys with 11 rushing touchdowns in 1971, he became the first player to score a touchdown at Texas Stadium.

Before playing collegiate football at West Texas State in the Texas Panhandle, Thomas was born and reared in Dallas. Cowboys selected him in the first round of the 1970 draft.

As a novice in The 2024 NFL preseason began Thursday, with some rookies playing their first plays.

The first week of preseason games provides an early look at each team’s new players, whether they are rookies or offseason acquisitions. To keep you up to date on how all of the players performed in their first games, our NFL Nation reporters have summarized the top debuts below.Jets: Rookie running back Braelon Allen was the team’s most impressive newcomer. The fourth-round pick from Wisconsin likely sealed his role as Breece Hall’s primary backup, rushing for 54 yards on six carries. With Hall out (nearly every starter was given the day off), the 6-foot-1, 235-pound Allen demonstrated power, vision, and, yes, some quickness on the perimeter. Allen’s rookie running back, Isaiah Davis, had a 24-yard reception out of the backfield. Otherwise, it was a forgettable day for the fifth-round pick, who replaced Allen in the backfield and was given the opportunity to return kickoffs and punts. Malachi Corley, a third-round wide receiver, had a 33-yard kickoff return that was the highlight of his day. First-round pick Olu Fashanu, slated as Tyron Smith’s backup at left tackle, received Commanders: Washington got what they hoped for from its most significant newcomer, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. He only played one series, and it was against New York’s second defense, with Washington’s top three offensive tackles out. But Daniels’ one series made the Commanders happy.

He completed two of three passes for 45 yards and ran for a three-yard touchdown. On a third-and-six, Daniels modified the play at the line of scrimmage, moving from a screen to a go ball down the right side to Dyami Brown. The zone-read fake failed to fool the safety on the touchdown run, but Daniels was too quick to the outside and scored easily.

Second-round pick. Mike Sainristil had a good tackle in short play.
