Not Robert Downey Jr., but Howard Stern, was the first choice for Dr. Doom in the MCU? [Fact Check]

No matter how startling Howard Stern’s portrayal of Doctor Doom sounds, it was already hinted at before Robert Downey Jr. took on the legendary character in Fantastic Four: First Steps. For a brief moment, it appeared that Stern may be taking over as Latveria’s Supreme Leader.
Robert Downey Jr.’s final appearance as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, was in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, where he sacrificed himself to save the world. Five years later, at a San Diego Comic-Con presentation, the Russo Brothers, who created our MCU flicks, including Avengers Endgame, affirmed they would direct the forthcoming Avengers films and revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would play Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom.
At the time, Anthony Russo stated, “If we’re going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen, he’s one of the most complex and entertaining characters in all of fiction.” “If we’re going to do this, we’ll need the best actor in the world.”

While the Russo Brothers have not specified whether Iron Man and Doctor Doom will be linked, there is an unexpected connection in the comic book.
