Oxnard, California — There are many NFL players who understand the sting of misfortune and what it takes to overcome it, and Trey Lance is among them. The young quarterback, who was drafted third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, has already overcome a season-ending ankle injury the following season before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys one year later.
Lance enters training camp battling Cooper Rush for the seat right behind Los Angeles Rams, and the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams will be his first game against an opponent since 2022.
That might lead to a lot of emotions, but it sounds like Lance is staying. But, as Lance stated, he’s simply playing football.
“I’m going into this game the same as I’ve gone into every other game my whole entire life — college, high school,” he told reporters. “I don’t think I’ll add too much extra to it. I’m not going to play any harder than I have in the past, or less hard.
“This is a huge game for me. “This is a big game for us, so I’m excited to go out there and play well.”
One of Lance’s most remarkable contributions to this year’s camp, given that he was unable to attend last year’s camp owing to the timing of the trade with the 49ers (late August), is the amount of effort he has put into flawlessly mimicking Prescott’s cadence.
It’s an audible doppler.
