ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions are losing another key member of their front office to the Washington Commanders.
Brandon Sosna, senior director of football administration, has agreed to become Washington’s senior vice president of football operations. His departure to the nation’s capital follows Lance Newmark, Detroit’s former head of player personnel who became Washington’s assistant general manager earlier this offseason.
The 31-year-old executive Sosna was praised for his behind-the-scenes work under general manager Brad Holmes during his two seasons in Detroit. A few weeks after Detroit signed many of its key free agent targets, Holmes had a meeting in Orlando with a select group of reporters during the owners meetings. He complimented the usual suspects—the Ford family, team president Rod Wood, head coach Dan Campbell, the personnel department under Rob Lohman, the coaching staff, and the analytics department—for their efforts in free agency before any questions could be posed.
However, he reserved the most lavish compliments for Sosna.
That day, Holmes remarked, “It’s been really cool to see his growth in this role.” It was essentially his first season as a free agent last year, and I thought he performed admirably. He really outperformed himself this year as well. All these arrangements are allowing Dan and I to talk to him about the guys we are pursuing. But Sosna and Mike Disner are closing those agreements. As usual, everyone is working together, and I firmly think that this was our best period of free agency since coming here.
