Birmingham City have completed the signing of central defender Ben Davies from Rangers.

Davies has joined Blues from the Scottish giants to become the club’s 13th summer signing. The 29-year-old has signed a season-long loan at St Andrew’s.

Blues manager Chris Davies has been searching for another centre-back and his namesake will provide competition to Krystian Bielik, Christoph Klarer and Dion Sanderson. In contrast to Blues’ existing central defensive trio, Davies is left-footed which is something the club have coveted this summer.

Davies has enjoyed an interesting career path which started at Preston North End and took him to Liverpool in January 2021. Jurgen Klopp signed Davies to help the Reds through a defensive crisis but he left Anfield two years ago having failed to play a game.

Davies played Champions League football with Rangers last season and featured in their 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv earlier this month. He started the Gers’ season opener against Hearts and helped them to a clean sheet.

Since making his professional debut for Preston 11 years ago, Davies has played 159 games in the Championship. He will now try to help Blues return to the second tier at the first time of asking.
