The Bulldogs, who are based in Athens, Georgia, have won 48 national championships in addition to 179 SEC championship victories in a variety of sports.

Georgia was the first university in the US to receive a state charter, having been established in 1785. In 1804, the first graduating class obtained its degrees. With more than 31,000 undergraduate students, Georgia is now rated as the ninth best public institution in the country.
