North Melbourne young gun Harry Sheezel has claimed the 2024 AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player Award
After being selected with the third overall choice in the 2022 AFL Draft, Sheezel has already proven in just two seasons of his bright future how much he can alter the outcome of a game.
The Telstra AFL Rising Star winner for 2023 and the club’s best and fairest player is also adaptable; in his rookie season, he mostly played defence after making his debut as a forward in his junior campaign. In his second year, he contributed in all three areas of the field while playing a variety of roles. Later in the 2024 season, he showcased his skills as a midfielder.
Sheezel was elected into the leadership group prior to the 2024 season, demonstrating how significant he has become in a short amount of time.
Sheezel received congratulations from AFL Coaches Association CEO Alistair Nicholson for winning the 2024 AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player award within his first two AFL seasons.
“We congratulate Harry on being voted the Coaches’ 2024 Best Young Player; he has had an incredibly impressive first two seasons with the Nicholson ,” Nicholson said.
“Harry should be proud of himself, as should the Kangaroos coaching group for the role they play.”
The AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player Award is presented in celebration of the player based on performances in his first two seasons of AFL Football and is determined by the weekly votes of the AFL coaches in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
