Fourth-year sophomore running back Don Chaney Jr. and fourth-year junior linebacker Corey Flagg joined fifth-year junior defensive end Jahfari Harvey in the transfer portal on Monday. The defensive line and running back are two of the deepest positions units on the Miami football team entering 2024.

Chaney had his best season in 2023 after missing almost the entire 2021 and 2022 seasons. Flagg was fourth on the Miami football team with 48 tackles and added seven TFLs, three quarterback hits and one forced fumble. Flagg will always be remembered for his walk-off TFL in double overtime versus Clemson.

The departures of Chaney and Flagg will provide younger Miami players with opportunities in 2024 and potentially in their bowl game next month. True freshman Mark Fletcher, fourth-year junior Henry Parrish and redshirt freshman Ajay Allen are expected to return to Miami in 2024.

Miami is also expected to return true freshman RB Chris Johnson who played in only one game in 2023 and can take a redshirt. The Hurricanes have commitments from 2024 RBs, four-star prospect Kevin Riley and three-star recruit Chris Wheatley-Humphrey. Most of the LBs on the 2023 Miami roster have eligibility remaining beyond 2023. Rocky Shelton and Keontra Smith who have had minimal playing time on defense this season are the only Miami LBS without eligibility beyond 2023. Miami signed an elite 2023 LB class and has two 2024 commits at the position.

Sophomore Wesley Bissainthe and Junior Francisco Mauigoa are expected to return to anchor the Miami LB corps in 2024. True freshman Marcellius Pulliam had an interception versus Boston College on Friday. Raul Aguirre, Malik Bryant and Bobby Washington were other 2023 signees with bright futures.
