Edmonton Elks Name 2024 Coaching Staff, Including New Defensive Coordinator
The Edmonton Elks named their coaching staff ahead of the 2024 CFL season on Monday, including new defensive coordinator Jason Shivers.
The Edmonton Elks are hoping for a better 2024 season than their 4-14 campaign a year ago. The club is being proactive in making changes to try to get over the hump and back into the playoffs.
On Monday, the team named their 2024 coaching staff, which includes five new additions to the staff. Those new coaches include three on defense and two on offense.
Jason Shivers headlines the new additions as he has been brought in as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and linebacker coach. Shivers spent the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was previously with Edmonton in 2014 and 2015 as the defensive backs coach.
Other new faces include defensive back coach Markus Klund, running backs coach Albert Poree, defensive line coach Nate O’Neal and assistant offensive line coach Takoby Cofield.
Jones is back for the third year of his second stint as head coach of the Elks, previously leading the team 2014 and 2015 before taking the Saskatchewan Roughriders job in 2016. His overall record as head coach is 61-65, and his squads have made the playoffs in four of the seven seasons as head coach.
Jackson returns as offensive coordinator after taking over the role in late July of last year. He has been serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Elks since 2022 and was previously in the same role with Edmonton in 2014 and 2015.
Scheper is entering his third season as special teams coordinator for the Elks, a position he has held since 2022. He was the offensive line coach for Edmonton in 2015, winning the Grey Cup with the team.
Edmonton will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 8 to kick off its 2024 season.
