The 23-year-old was subbed on for West Brom in the 55th minute, and just 10 minutes into his bench cameo, Dike was subbed off the pitch. The USMNT forward left the ground in tears, holding his head in his hands, as he suffered another injury setback.
Ipswich players and fans applauded him off the pitch, while fellow West Brom teammates appeared to be visibly shaken as they saw their striker leave the match.
Dike returned from a nine-month layoff just one month ago after undergoing Achilles tendon surgery after suffering a brutal injury last campaign for West Brom. In the five matches he has played in for West Brom, across all competitions, since returning from injury, he scored one goal.
Now, his status going forward is uncertain, and with both the Olympic Games and Copa America this summer for the USMNT, it could be a brutal blow.
Speaking postgame, the Baggies boss said: “The injury is to the left foot, the same place as his Achilles injury. We don’t know if it is as serious as the previous injury. you can imagine how he feels, I said to him we need to wait for the results.
“Everyone is affected when you see someone suffer an injury. We are all going to wait for the results to see the damage. We will be with him, but we need to be patient. He had a similar feeling of his previous injury.”
This is the fifth injury that Dike has suffered in his young career so far. He only turned 23 in June of last year.
The USMNT striker will now be evaluated by the team’s medical staff to determine the severity of the injury. Hopefully, it’s a minor occurrence and he will be able to take to the pitch again soon. However, based off his initial reactio, fans will be worried about his status.
