ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — NIU’s opening football game last Saturday against Western Illinois was one Huskies’ quarterback Ethan Hampton never forget. He topped all the great NIU quarterbacks in history when it comes to passing efficiency.

His 310.3 mark is the best ever eclipsing the likes of Jordan Lynch, Chandler Harnish and even College Football Hall of Famer George Bork. In the 54-15 win, Hampton completed 18 of his 20 passes. Five of those completions went for touchdowns. That left Hampton with an ESPN QBR of 98.1. That ranks Hampton third in the nation.

On fourth down with his team leading 31-28 on Thursday night, Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt took the snap, backpedaled six yards and took a knee, giving ASU the victory over Texas State.

Or so we thought.

After a lengthy review, the officials called the teams back onto the field and gave Texas State one final play with 1 second left on the clock from its own 30-yard line. ASU was able to recover a fumble on the play, preventing a miracle from the Bobcats, but social media was dumbfounded by the decision to give Texas State another play.
