Red Sox Interested in Dodgers Free Agent; Return to L.A. Unlikely: Reports
The Los Angeles Dodgers were short on pitchers going into the ninth inning of Game 5 of the World Series. With the season in the balance, Walker Buehler recorded three outs to close the door on the eighth championship in franchise history — only two days after he threw five shutout innings to beat the New York Yankees.
Now a free agent, Buehler is becoming a hot commodity, garnering interest from at least seven teams.

According to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have joined a list of teams interested in Buehler. The list already included the Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, and New York Mets.
Buehler was an established starter for the Dodgers before undergoing a second Tommy John surgery in 2022. Now he’s a bounce-back candidate who’s pitched only 75.1 innings in the regular season since his return, with a 5.38 ERA.
The 2024 postseason was another story. During the Dodgers’ run to the championship, Buehler allowed runs in only one of the 15 postseason innings he pitched. His only loss came in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, a game in which he allowed seven hits, six runs, and one walk without striking out a batter.
