The Mets’ plan to improve the team after breaking the bank with Juan Soto….

The Mets are looking for a roster that will allow them to compete to return to the World Series

The New York Mets took a step up in their quest to dominate the National League and reach the World Series with the signing of Juan Soto, in a historic 15-year, $765 million deal, but they still need to back it up with a more respectable roster, because the competition will be fierce, first to dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers, then with their neighbors the New York Yankees.

In the Bronx, they felt aggrieved after losing the bid for Soto and are one of the most active teams in free agency. They are going for talent that will not make them miss the Dominican player, so the Mets are obliged to continue with the investment. They have already shown interest in reinforcing their rotation with Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler, but according to Will Sammon of The Athletic, there is also a plan to retain two players identified with the organization: Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea

“After signing Juan Soto to the richest contract in sports history, people familiar with the New York Mets’ thinking on how to fill holes on the roster said the club plans to act ‘aggressively but smartly,'” Sammon opined, referring to the fact that in Queens they will look for Pete Alonso to return, but with a shorter contract, while with pitcher Sean Mananea, they would also try to re-sign him, although instead of five, they could offer him a four-year deal.
