Ohio State quarterback Will Howard vowed to make a run in the College Football Playoffs after losing to Michigan, but was called a “coward” by Wolverines fan and Barstool founder Dave Portnoy.
The Wolverines delivered a major upset over their rivals with a 13-10 win over the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, which has placed Ohio State on the brink of elimination from the Big Ten Championship Game. The Buckeyes are still in a strong position heading into the College Football Playoffs, but have now lost four straight games against Michigan.
Portnoy posted several videos after the game to rub salt into Ohio State’s wounds, and called out Howard in particular. “This guy Will Howard… you’re not playing Indiana,” Portnoy said. “Win, lose, or draw, this guy is a bum.
“We (Michigan) are playing with one hand tied behind our back. These guys are cowards. Will Howard, coward.” While Howard was devastated by Saturday’s loss, he’s confident that the Buckeyes will make a statement in the playoffs.
“It’s hard, man,” Howard said after the game. “I don’t really have much right now but I do know we’re a two-loss team, we’re going to get in the playoffs, we’re going to make a run — but this one hurts. It hurts.”
Howard had a poor game, going 19-for-33 with 175 yards and one touchdown. However, he also threw two costly interceptions which handed the Wolverines a huge advantage as they went on to win by just three points.
It wasn’t just the quarterback who let Ohio State down, as kicker Jayden Fielding missed two field goals from over 30 yards. Michigan attempted to celebrate the win by planting a flag in the middle of the field at Ohio Stadium, and it resulted in a major brawl between both teams.
Punches were thrown amid the chaos and law enforcement was needed to break up the brawl, but Portnoy used the incident as a way of mocking the Buckeyes further. “Hey, shoutout to Ohio State after the game!” Portnoy sarcastically said during the brawl.
