Could Drew Allar be the top QB in the 2026 NFL draft? Expert weighs in on return to Penn State - pennlive.comgood news and bad for Penn State, one more positive report has surfaced.

Starting quarterback Drew Allar, who announced a vague plan to return to campus back in December, has officially decided to return to Penn State in 2025. The Athletic’s NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler reported the news Monday afternoon, saying Allar reviewed his NFL feedback and came to the decision.

Had the feedback been more positive, perhaps Allar could have changed course and taken off for the next level. He had an up-and-down run in the College Football Playoffs, culminating in the lasting image of his back-breaking interception against Notre Dame in the final seconds of the Orange Bowl.

Across the Big Ten Championship and three CFP games, Allar completed 58 of 109 passing attempts (53.2%) for 659 yards and six touchdowns with three interceptions. He flashed first-round upside with elite throws at times but also made baffling decisions against Notre Dame and Oregon. He finished the 2024 season with 16 starts and 3,327 yards, good for third all-time at Penn State.

Allar will return for his senior season with 6,302 career passing yards at Penn State and 53 touchdowns. His 62.9% career completion percentage currently ranks first in program history.

On Monday, two Penn State players entered the transfer portal. Then defensive coordinator Tom Allen reportedly got close to taking the same position at Clemson. The news quickly got better, with running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen each announcing their Penn State returns. Now, the trio of Allar, Singleton and Allen will lead Penn State into a 2025 season with as high of expectations as any in program history.
