The Fighting Irish returned home Tuesday afternoon, with fans lining the street entering campus.
Players and coaches were given a warm welcome after an exceptional season run.
Dozens of fans were lined up with posters in hand, all proud of the team’s accomplishments this season.
“They’re fighting for us all season long so it’s fun to come out and support them as they come home to us,” said Terence Fitzgibbon, fan.
It’s been a hard-fought season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Their run for a National championship fell short Monday night against the Ohio State buckeyes.
But that didn’t stop fans from welcoming them home and celebrating their accomplishments.
“Come back from the NIU loss learning from it right putting your head down get to work getting to the national championship and I mean that loss was devastating right I mean you have fans like leaving the parties leaving the bars and they got to work and they almost brought it back, so we’re so proud of this team and that’s why we’re here,” said James Nugent, fan.
People emphasized the team’s improvement and growth.
They also highlight the leadership of Coach Marcus Freeman.
“They’re always gonna learn from it. They’re always gonna improve from it and seeing coach Freeman really honing in on that and not just reminded players about but teach them from it every week it’s really inspiring,” said Fitzgibbon.
Fans added the Irish have heart and it’s what the program is all about and the energy they bring to campus.
“What they bring to campus it just excites the whole campus it just unites us and we are ND,” said Barb Westra.
If fans were excited to welcome home the Irish, they’re even more excited for next season.
They are looking forward to what they’ll accomplish next.
