Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo believes that the departing seniors are “dogs” who are willing to “fight” after praising her Fighting Irish teammates ahead of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Hidalgo may be locked in on the NCAA Tournament, where Notre Dame is set to face Hailey van Lith and TCU on Saturday, but the Fighting Irish have two top-ranked players set to be taken high in the upcoming draft. Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron have been predicted by many to be selected within the top five, with UConn guard Paige Bueckers the overwhelming favorite to go first.
Unlike Miles and Citron, Hidalgo will return to the Fighting Irish as a junior next season and reunite with head coach Niele Ivey. Hidalgo was asked by reporters to help sell Notre Dame’s seniors, and the sophomore had positive words to say about her experienced teammates.
“No, I’m not going to go one by one — because we have so many seniors,” Hidalgo said. “But I think that they are dogs; that they are going to fight, and whatever position you put them in, there’s not going to be any complaining or arguing. They are going to have to go and do what they have to do.
“They are hard-nosed and put in the work and are going to get better. The sky is the limit for them. They don’t have a cap on their talent level. They can always improve and get better, and they are so versatile and, especially with the length they have got, they can do so much. They are great draftees.”
Unfortunately for Miles, her final March Madness has been dominated by injury after hurting her ankle in the first round. Miles went down with 8:44 remaining during a 106-54 win over Stephen F. Austin, and has been playing through the pain ever since.
