After Notre Dame fell to a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of TCU at the Sweet 16 stage of the NCAA Tournament, Fighting Irish head coach Niele Ivey discussed Olivia Miles
Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey hailed Olivia Miles as a “generational talent” after their March Madness exit – with the point guard now preparing to enter the transfer portal rather than go pro.
The 22-year-old has been projected as a potential No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft as a result of her impressive performances for the Fighting Irish. However, she is preparing to play a fifth and final campaign in college basketball with numerous teams now aiming for her signature.
She has one more year of eligibility after sustaining a knee injury which forced her to miss the entirety of the 2023-24 season. After the Notre Dame’s Sweet 16 defeat at the hands of TCU, Ivey made it clear how highly she thinks of Miles.
She emerged from the Fighting Irish’s thrilling March Madness run with her reputation enhanced even further following a heroic return during the regular season. After her year-long layoff due to an ACL injury, she averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists across the campaign.
Despite a 71-62 defeat at the hands of the Horned Frogs, Notre Dame head coach Ivey waxed lyrical about Sonia Citron and Miles, speaking in glowing terms about the pair. She referred to her team as a “special group”, saying: “So talented coming into the season.
“Sonia [Citron] and Liv [Olivia Miles] are generational talents that I have had a chance to foster and help to develop and grow the last four or five years. So, it’s been a blessing from the beginning knowing — and Maddy Westbeld super versatile. It’s just been amazing. They’re amazing humans and I feel like you got a chance to listen to who they are as people.
