The 24-year-old NBA guard has invested $3.6 million of his own money to transform a property in Tennessee into a state-of-the-art shelter specifically dedicated to serving Black homeless youth. The shelter, named The Haliburton House of Hope, will provide housing, education, counseling, and workforce development services to Black youth between the ages of 14 and 24 who are experiencing homelessness. According to sources close to the player, he became “serious about making a change” after a recent visit to Tennessee revealed the disproportionately high number of Black youth living on the streets or cycling through the juvenile justice system.

According to a 2023 report by the National Network for Youth, Black youth are more than twice as likely to experience homelessness as their white peers. Many face compounding challenges, including family rejection, poverty, racial discrimination, and gaps in the education and foster care systems.
Community leaders and advocates across the state have applauded Haliburton’s investment, calling it a “transformative gift” in a region that has historically lacked such resources. “What Tyrese is doing is monumental,” said Jamal Carter, director of the Tennessee Youth Equity Coalition. “He’s not just writing a check — he’s creating a future.”
