The Monday night NFL game in Week 13 produced 73 points as the Browns and Broncos produced an end-to-end contest that exceeded lowly expectations, and this week’s clash between the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys should also see the defences having a tough time.
The Bengals just haven’t been able to win regularly this season, no matter how well their star quarterback Joe Burrow has played, and their defence is one of the worst in the league. The Bengals are a hugely disappointing 4-8, but they are still chalked up as favourites for the eighth time this season against the Cowboys.
Dallas have at least been fighting since losing quarterback Dak Prescott to injury and are coming off two successive divisional wins.
Going long on the total points line has to be the bet, however, with the Bengals providing the perfect combination of dreadful defence and elite quarterback play. They rank fourth in the league in points per play while Dallas’s defence ranks 29th for average points conceded per game with 28.3.
Cincinnati’s defence is just as bad as the Cowboys’. Dallas’s rushing attack finally had a decent outing with 122 yards against the Giants, while the Bengals have been allowing 128 rushing yards per game. Dallas QB Cooper Rush is far from starting quality, but he is at least coming off a pair of clean games with no interceptions and three touchdown passes. The total points line has been surpassed in nine of the Bengals’ 12 games this season, with the last five going over by an average of 18 points.
