Sam Woods will not follow Tiger Woods into playing professional golf despite serving as the caddy to her father for a very sweet reason, being that she is only interested in the game to spend time with her dad and brother.
The 17-year-old teenager is the older sister of Charlie and can regularly be spotted besides her family on the fairway, helping them figure out which driver or iron they should use to get within range of the green.
But despite the legacy of her surname, Tiger says she won’t pick up the mantle of the 15-time majors winner because she cares about family too much and perhaps has some bad memories from her own childhood.
“She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game,” Woods told TODAY of Sam. “Because at that time, when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her.
“I had to pack, and I had to leave, and I’d be gone for weeks, and there’s a negative connotation to it.”
Nonetheless, she does continue to support her dad. She’s accompanied the 48-year-old to the 2019 Masters when he took his first major title in 11 years, as well as being at his 2022 World Golf Hall of Fame induction.
