Gun Broncos lock Patrick Carrigan has penned a huge contract extension, tying himself to Brisbane until the end of 2028.
The 25-year-old was already contracted to the Broncos until the end of 2024, but has signed a four-year extension in a massive show of faith in Kevin Walters’ grand plan.
“I love this club and I could never imagine leaving,” said Carrigan, who staved off rival clubs chasing his signature.
“We are building something special here together and I wanted to make a long-term commitment to be a part of that.
“A lot of us guys have been through the tough times together and now we are starting to show signs of what we can do if we work hard and work for each other.
“I’m here for the long haul and I’m excited about what we can achieve together over the years ahead.”
Carrigan made his Kangaroos debut last year and was a member of the Australian side that defeated Samoa 30-10 in the final.
The Broncos academy product was awarded the Wally Lewis Medal last year, handed to the State of Origin player of the series.
He created history by winning the prestigious gong, becoming the first debutant to claim the honour.
He made his NRL debut in 2019 and has played 61 games in his impressive career.
Carrigan averaged 150 run metres and 32 tackles per match in 2022.
“This is a great day for the Broncos because Pat embodies what we are about as a club and he is at the heart of what we are building here together,” Walters said.
“He has grown as a player through our club’s academy system, going on to captain our NYC team before graduating to the NRL squad and building into the player that he is today — and the impressive thing is that all he wants to do is continue to improve.”
