OU softball kept up its hot start to the season, leaving no doubt on the one-year anniversary of Love’s Field’s opening, blasting Kansas 8-0 and Marshall 11-0 in a pair of five-inning, run-rule victories at home Saturday.

“Overall today was one of our best days of softball,” Sooners coach Patty Gasso said. “Very clean, very sharp. Pitchers did a great job. Kasidi Pickering on fire and then you get Gabbie (Garcia) on fire, Maya (Bland) gets a swing. … Then our defense was on point. Everything was on point. It was really clean, fun to watch.”

The Sooners hit eight home runs on the day, had 14 hits overall, drew 13 walks, didn’t commit an error and allowed just eight hits over 10 innings.

“It was just, top to bottom, I don’t know that there’s many things you could criticize us on,” Gasso said.

The second-ranked Sooners (18-0) will wrap up the Omni Oklahoma Classic against Kansas City at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Love’s Field.

Sophomore Kasidi Pickering hit 784 feet worth of home runs Saturday, with two in the opener and another in the first inning of the nightcap.

Pickering finished the day 3 for 3 with five RBIs and three walks.

“She’s such a really pure hitter,” Gasso said. “Every at bat seems to mean something to her. It’s not just, ‘Go up and take my hacks.’ She’s very calculated and her swing is so pure and she’s seeing the ball so well. It looks really easy for her right now.”
